This very common plant has a triangular stem and grass like leaves. It grows to a height of 20 to 60 centimeters. The mature plant has a soft fur like bloom that extends from a whorl of leaves.
Tubers 1 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter grow at the ends of the roots.
Chufa grows in moist sandy areas throughout the world.
It is often an abundant weed in cultivated fields.
